Artist

PEACE - 1998, Arusha, Tanzania

Peace was born in 1998 in Arusha, Tanzania. His given name, Amani, means “peace” in Swahili. From a young age, he showed a special talent for the visual arts. After completing his secondary education, he decided to dedicate himself to painting and turn his passion into his livelihood, always with the conviction that art would not only allow him to fulfill himself professionally, but would also give him the opportunity to explore Tanzanian nature and culture. For Peace, art transcends personal expression: it is a tool to generate positive impact in his community and support his family.

A decisive moment in his journey was when he met Filex, an artist with a great trajectory and recognition in Arusha, who saw his potential and invited him to collaborate on projects. Under his mentorship, Peace trained in painting techniques and developed his own style. As a member of the Maasai ethnic group, he seeks to represent his culture through art and share with the world the strength and resilience of his people. In his works, he captures the customs and beauty of his territory, as well as realities of the culture to which he belongs, intimately linked to the majesty of Tanzanian wildlife. The search for sustenance has also led him to work as a tour guide in Tanzania’s national parks, a job that deeply enriches his artistic work, as it allows him to stay in contact with nature and gives him the opportunity to meet people from diverse parts of the world.

His commitment to using his talent for the collective good has been a guiding thread throughout his career, exercising important leadership within the artist community in Arusha. For years, he has explored various ways to fairly commercialize both his works and those of his colleagues. Peace understands that when artists manage to cover their daily needs, they have more opportunities not only to live better and support those around them, but also to research, explore and create art that makes them feel fully fulfilled.

The artist observes that the daily realities limiting artists in pursuing the projects they are passionate about affect women artists in particularly challenging ways. Due to cultural dynamics, women often take on caregiving responsibilities that distance them from their creative work. For this reason, he has always been committed to promoting initiatives that give women more time and freedom to develop their artistic activities.

Peace is co-founder of Vitendo Art, a movement that goes beyond traditional art commercialization companies. For him, Vitendo Art is a space that drives real change, allowing artists like him to live better while simultaneously contributing to the growth of their communities. Peace dreams of art being a vehicle for social transformation, generating opportunities and strengthening bonds of solidarity.

When someone acquires one of his works, they not only support Peace and his family, but also become part of a process of change that positively impacts his community. For Peace, art is work of discipline, constant learning and collective commitment, where beauty connects with hope for a more just and inclusive future for all.
